Dixon is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Carl Lumbly is joining Marvel Studios’ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier for Disney+. Lumbly will appear in an as-of-yet unannounced role.

The series, which follows the popular Avengers characters played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, is filming now in the Atlanta area, with a premiere set for August on the popular streaming service.

There is a possibility that Lumbly will portray Isaiah Bradley, aka the "Black Captain America." According to the Marvel Comics, Bradley was one of the original test subjects of the Super Soldier program during World War II, which eventually created Captain America.

Lumbly already has a history portraying DC Comics characters. Recently, he starred on the CW's "Supergirl" as M'yrnn J'onzz, the father of J’onn J’onzz the Martian Manhunter. Previously, Lumbly voiced Martian Manhunter in the animated series "Justice League."

Genre fans will also remember Lumbly as the star of the sci-fi series "M.A.N.T.I.S.," which aired on Fox in the mid 1990s and was created by Sam Raimi.
If you've been watching the new Star Trek series Picard on CBS All Access, you likely saw a familiar face in the first episode: Francie Calfo herself, Merrin Dungey! We even have a clip from her appearance!

Dungey, who has been busy recently with appearances on Once Upon a Time, The Resident, and Little Big Lies, is now part of the Star Trek universe.

Of course, she isn't the only Alias alumni to head over to the final frontier. J.J. Abrams has headed up the new "Kelvin Timeline" series of Star Trek films as director for two movies, and actor Greg Grunberg has appeared in two of them.

In the first episode, Dungey plays a reporter who interviews a now-retired Picard about the events that caused him to leave Starfleet.
Arvin Sloane really wants to be left alone.
Ron Rifkin was really interviewed by X17 as he was walking through an airport, a common tactic for tabloid shows to catch celebrities.

The 79-year-old actor was having none of it, however. Channeling his best Sloane, the actor aggressively suggested he wasn't a celebrity. He seemed genuinely annoyed that he was even recognized and video-taped. It's a funny exchange.

Apple TV has ordered a new mini-series from J.J. Abrams, which will reunite him with Jennifer Garner.

According to a report from Variety, the limited series is based on the memoir by Amy Silverstein “My Glory Was I Had Such Friends.” The book tells the story of Silverstein's friends, a group of women who supported her as she underwent a life-saving second heart transplant. Garner will play Silverstein.

It has been 17 years since Garner shot to fame playing spy Sydney Bristow in "Alias," winning a Golden Globe and scoring four Emmy nominations. Abrams, who has become one of Hollywood's most celebrated filmmakers, will executive produce along with Ben Stephenson and Silverstein under the Bad Robot banner. Karen Croner will serve as writer and executive producer.

Our prayers may have finally been answered: Jennifer Garner's return to ALIAS may be in the works!

After five seasons, ALIAS was cancelled in 2006, and stars Jennifer Garner, Michael Vartan, Victor Garber, and some guy named Bradley Cooper went on to bigger things.

Now, with the reboot craze hitting TV, it seems the "spy-fi" show is getting a second look.

The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Garner, who was promoting her new HBO show "Camping." During the interview, she dropped the ALIAS reboot bombshell, making clear it appeared to be in the early planning stages.

"I've heard that there's an Alias reboot happening, but no one's talked to me about it," she tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I mean it would be totally different. But if they didn't have me on as a guest, I would be very, very angry. But I can't imagine it being that serious yet because I haven't heard anything about it at all."

The comment marks a change from her past remarks, in which she said that she feels like a revival of the spy series is up to creator J.J. Abrams, and comes as Garner will soon be back on TV.

It's not clear if a reboot would continue with Garner in the lead, minus the actors whose characters died in the finale, including Victor Garber, Ron Rifkin, and Lena Olin. They were vital elements to the show, and going on without them would change the essence of the show.

We could also see a continuation using mostly new characters, with Garner and the rest of the original cast in supporting or cameo roles. This seems to be what Garner is referring to, as she mentions being a "guest" on a possible reboot. Or, we could see an entirely new cast and premise, with only the name to connect the two.

An entirely new show under the Alias name would likely not go over well. In 2010, Abrams tried to do another spy show focused on personal relationships: "Undercovers." It starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw and focused on former CIA spies who were now married. Though it had a definite "ALIAS" vibe, it only lasted one season. That would imply any ALIAS reboot would have to include the original characters to have any chance of success.

Jennifer Garner is one dedicated mom - and she doesn't let her superstar status get in the way. With Girl Scout Cookie season upon us, Sydney Bristow has a new mission - moving some boxes into the hands of hungry cookie lovers.
At the ATX Festival in Austin this weekend, Alias writers and executive producers Josh Appelbaum, Ken Olin, Sarah Caplan, André Nemec, and Monica Owusu-Breen reunited to discuss the groundbreaking show. A number of subjects were covered, from Sydney's iconic red wig to the possibility of a reboot.

According to EW.com, the following subjects were covered.

How the "Red Wig" came to be

After struggling to find the right shade of red — they had three options, none of which worked — Caplan and Abrams had been scouting at UCLA and ran into a woman with what Caplan called “badly dyed hair” that was blonde on top, but red underneath. “I go to the girl, ‘Would you mind, can I take a little snippet of the bottom of your hair?'” Caplan says. “‘We’re looking for this certain color. The director thinks yours is the perfect color.’ She looks at me and she goes, ‘No.’ I said, ‘Really? Why not?’ ‘Well, I’ve grown this hair and that hair has been with me for 14 years.’ ‘I only want a few hairs. Well, we’ll pay you for the little bit of hair.’ By now she’s sitting down with her friends. She’s very smart. Finally, she agrees that we can buy a little bit of the hair. I don’t have any money on me, J.J. doesn’t have any money on him, so I wrestle $39 off various members of the crew.”

The Guest Stars...and Lena Olin

Alias was able to attract a stellar guest star cast — including Quentin Tarantino, Angela Bassett, and Faye Dunaway — thanks, in part, to J.J. Abrams. “It was who J.J. wanted to meet,” jokes Appelbaum, who says Abrams got obsessed with the British version of The Office and that’s why they wrote a part for Ricky Gervais. “Usually on TV shows, you’d say, ‘So it’s like an Angela Bassett type or a Quentin Tarantino type,’ but then it was actually them.” One star they weren’t able to get back for the final season was Lena Olin, who didn’t return in a full capacity as Sydney’s mother Irina Derevko. “She didn’t want to commit,” Caplan says. “It was very difficult to get her on the show, but once she was there, she was happy as a clam. She was really lovely to work with. It was so hard to get her each time to come. She was coming from upstate New York.”

The season finale that had to change

There was an idea for a season finale cliffhanger where Sydney, Jack, and Vaughn were mountain climbing, and Sydney would’ve had to choose between saving Jack or Vaughn’s life, but the idea leaked and they had to change it.

The reboot possibility

“It would be amazing to do it; we’ve even talked with J.J. [Abrams],” co-executive producer Josh Appelbaum said during the panel, which was moderated by EW’s Sara Vilkomerson. “The right idea would have to come. We wouldn’t want to do it unless it was absolutely perfect.”

Alias fans, soak it in. We know all involved have downplayed the idea (and Garber's participation is problematic, as we all know), but still, it's nice to dream.
Angus Scrimm, who played the memorable SD-6 interrogator McCullough on Alias, has passed away at the age of 89. Although Alias fans remember him for his grilling of Jennifer Garner's Sydney Bristow, Scrimm had a lengthy acting career, and is perhaps best known as "The Tall Man" from the Phantasm horror film series.

Actor Doug Jones (Hellboy, Fantastic Four), who made two films with Scrimm, reacted to his passing on his Facebook page. "Anyone who ever met Mr. Scrimm knew him as the kindest most gentle soul...When lunching or dinnering with him socially, you would find me
with my chin in my hands just soaking up his stories and wisdom about
life. Always an artist. Always a gentleman. Always Angus Scrimm. He will
be missed."Victor Medinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02749718140560774050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253357692523000338.post-41243579985692807722015-07-27T00:14:00.001-07:002015-07-27T00:14:53.823-07:00Victor Garber and The Legends of Tomorrow!

Carl Lumbly is coming back to television! After his recent stint on A&E's The Returned, Lumbly has joined the cast of CBS' summer event series ZOO, based on the best-selling novel by James Patterson. Lumbly plays Delavane, an enigmatic Interpol agent embedded within the hierarchy of the General Secretariat, who takes matters into his own hands when faced with what he believes to be a global animal crisis. Basically, the series is about every animal on Earth going primal.

The series debuts on June 30, and you can check out a trailer for the series below. Unfortunately, Lumbly does not appear in the trailer.

Jennifer Garner is launching a new line of creative kits and projects for kids ages 4 to 11, and it is coming exclusively to Jo-Ann this June.

"We Made It by Jennifer Garner" is more than 100 durable, high quality choices designed to last as long as your memories. Kids learn to garden, make costumes & dress up, paint, sew, craft, bake sweet treats & more.

In celebration of the launch, Jo-Ann is proud to support Save the Children with a $75,000 donation for programs helping children in need in the U.S. As Artist Ambassador and trustee, Garner advocates for Save the Children's early education programs with the goal of ensuring that every child in America has access to quality education from cradle to cap and gown.

“As a mom and children’s advocate, I believe it’s very important we encourage children to express themselves and explore their imaginations,” said Jennifer Garner. “The We Made It line makes it easy and fun for families to form lasting memories together while developing their children’s creativity and intellectual abilities. I am excited to share We Made It with families and have a portion of the proceeds benefit Save the Children, a charity that is so important to me.”

The kits feature four creative categories, each encouraging inspiration and collaboration in a different way: Grow, Memorable, Playful and Sweet:

*Grow – foraging baskets, flower press kits and bird feeder projects are a few examples of the grow category which aims to stimulate exploration and observation of the natural world.

*Memorable – from framed family portraits to custom treasure boxes, the creative kits in the memorable category help children form lasting memories while developing personal interests and style.

*Playful – the playful category inspires self-expression and improvisation with creative kits including DIY wooden playsets and cute costumes.

*Sweet – there are more learning benefits related to baking treats than one might imagine – think of all the math – but the colorful kitchen prep mats, cookie stamps and other creative kits in the sweet category help keep children focused on the fun.

Victor Garber fans are likely aware of his recent run on the hit CW show "The Flash," where he played Martin Stein, a scientist who can merge with Robbie Amell's character of Ronnie Raymond to create the superhero Firestorm.

In a new interview with Broadway World, Garber confirmed that the previously-announced Flash-spinoff he is starring in will skip the pilot process and go straight to series. "We haven't filmed any of it yet - but, it is going straight to series. We start filming in August and it will be on in January," he said.

Garber is also excited about the cast he will join. "It's so many interesting people involved with it - Ciara and Arthur Darvill and Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell and Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz. I am very much looking forward to working with all of them on it. They are all really great people."Victor Medinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02749718140560774050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253357692523000338.post-62425869099732379902015-03-07T19:27:00.000-08:002015-03-07T19:27:01.685-08:00Sydney Bristow makes list of top 99 modern TV characters

Yahoo TV has been publishing a list of the top 99 TV characters since Tony Soprano hit TV screens in 1999. I usually hate lists like this as totally pointless, and I wonder why they set Tony Soprano as a starting point to begin with. However, they put Jennifer Garner's Sydney Bristow on the list, so we're mentioning it here.

They put Syd at #51, which we think is still too low, considering she set off the modern TV trend of "girl power" roles that are everywhere today. Of course, we're a bit biased. Anyway, to see the section of the list containing Sydney (they broke it up into multiple articles just to string us along), you can click right here to read it. Starring Robbie Amell, Alexa PenaVega, Michelle Forbes, and Keenan Tracey, the film carries this description: "What if all mythical artifacts, from Jason's Golden Fleece to Cinderella's glass slippers, were real -- and protected by a secret society?" OK, color me intrigued. Especially if one of the mythical items is a Rambaldi artifact.
With The Flash back from its winter hiatus, that means Victor Garber is about to make his debut on the show! The picture to the left, courtesy of JustJared.com, is from a recent press conference with the show's stars and creators. We won't go into his character, which may spoil things for those unaware of the upcoming plot, but his character is connected with actor Robbie Amell's character (seated to his left in the picture).
Editor's note: I recently had the opportunity to check out Mia Maestro's debut album on behalf of Cinelinx.com. We're reprinting it here for your enjoyment!

Whenever you hear about actresses making the leap into music, the result is often an overproduced, autotuned pop mess that ends up as gathering dust in your iTunes library as a regretful purchase. And so it was with some trepidation that I approached reviewing "Si Agua," the debut album from actress Mia Maestro, known to American audiences for her roles in The Strain, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Alias, and Frida. I was afraid I would have to slam the musical offerings of an actress I had been a fan of since she first played Nadia Santos in Alias ten years ago.

Maestro is no stranger to music, however; she had previously contributed a song (“Llovera”) to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 soundtrack, which is also featured on this album. Even so, I wasn't sure what to expect from "Si Agua," an album that was recorded in Iceland with a number of local musicians and composers but was also inspired by Maestro’s Argentinian heritage.

I was pleasantly surprised to find "Si Agua" (which translates to "If Water") was not a pop album that echoed every other Top 40 album, but rather a unique mix of light jazz, wispy ballads, and traditional folk songs with both Latin and European influences. And the result is something both inspiring and deeply moving.

Maestro doesn't follow the tired trend of singers who think overpowering vocals and multiple runs equal talent. Her voice has a breathy, graceful delivery that blends so beautifully with the stringed instruments that you often cannot tell one from the other. There isn't even a hint of digital manipulation or autotuning of Maestro’s voice, which is absolutely refreshing and highlights just how good she is. Her voice is as comforting as a mother singing a lullaby, and the accompanying arrangements are smartly mixed, never overpowering the vocals, but supporting them fully. The songs alternate between both English and Spanish lyrics (the song title is an indicator), but even if you don’t speak the language, you won’t mind it a bit.

The songs all have a sweet, intimate feel, and have the sound of a live recording, in all the right ways. At one point, if you listen closely enough, you can even catch a musician count down the start of the song. “Si Agua,” the title track, leads off the album, mixing a Latin rhythm with a chorus of stringed instruments. Both “Wedding” and “Time to Go” have a feel of the best light jazz, with a stringed accompaniment.

“Blue Eyed Sailor” which features Irish folk rocker Damien Rice, is the standout track, evidenced by the music video produced to promote the song. Led off by a strong guitar riff reminiscent of classic 1960s rock (I suppose we can thank Rice for that), the song settles down into a pure ballad. Rather than allowing the instrumentals to go over the top, however, Maestro’s voice keeps the song grounded. It’s a fantastic song, and the video is just as good. “Otra Vez” is a beautiful ballad with a nice piano foundation, that builds to an outstanding symphonic chorus of violins. It is one of my personal favorites of the album. The piano/violin motif continues with “Llovera,” the song featured on the Twilight soundtrack.

“Kidnapped by Snow” is a nice fusion of light electronica and violins, with a Latin beat beneath. It must be heard to be appreciated. “Goodbye” will remind you of the better folk ballads of the 1970s, and the album ends strongly with “Barca,” which showcases Maestro’s voice with light violins.

With the participation of artists including Ben Frost, bass saxophonist Colin Stetson, pianist Thomas Bartlett, Shahzad Ismaily, Valgeir Sigurosson (producer for Bjork), composer Nico Muhly, and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Si Agua is a unique and fulfilling musical experience that perfectly showcases Maestro’s angelic voice. The album can be sampled on both iTunes and Amazon Music, and I highly recommend it.
Jennifer Garner is heading back to television...sort of. Her production company, Vandalia Films, just sold a half-hour single-camera comedy, Half Full, to Fox, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. Garner will executive produce.

The comedy centers on a newlywed couple forced to put on hold their dream of moving to New York City because of impending (unexpected) parenthood. Instead, they have no choice but to stay at home in "beautiful" Agawam, Mass., keeping themselves within a five-mile radius of the husband's five bitter older siblings.

Matthew Nicklaw will pen the script and co-executive produce the comedy, with Vandalia's Juliana Janes on board to produce as well. Last season, Garner teamed with Butter screenwriter Jason Micallef for a strip club drama set up at Fox, and now she is prepping the mystery dramedy All the Pretty Faces at Bravo.Victor Medinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02749718140560774050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253357692523000338.post-87136968180658529892014-09-13T21:41:00.001-07:002014-09-14T22:23:18.306-07:00Greg Grunberg confirms role in Star Wars Episode VII

J.J. Abrams has a tradition of putting his childhood friend Greg Grunberg in every movie he makes. That, of course, has led to speculation that he would have to appear in Star Wars: Episode VII to keep the streak alive. On Thursday, Grunberg put the speculation to rest when he answered a Twitter question thusly:

Yes @smgulz it IS safe to assume I have a role in #StarWarsEpisodeVII - If I say more than that, JJ will have me killed.

And there you go. Will we see a Greg Grunberg as a Jedi action figure? Keep your fingers crossed!Victor Medinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02749718140560774050noreply@blogger.com
